on the part of, on behalf of, by

On the part of is a correct but often a wordy substitute for the preposition by or from.

  • Wordy: The CEO expects a greater effort on the part of your staff in the next quarter.
  • Concise: The CEO expects a greater effort by (or from) your staff in the next quarter.

On the part of is not a synonym for on behalf of.

  • I would like to thank the committee on behalf of (not on the part of) all those who received awards today.
