The rule justifying the devaluation of minority shares in a closely-held corporation for their lack of control has little validity when the shares are to be purchased by someone already in control of the corporation. In such a situation it can hardly be said that the shares are worth less to the purchaser because they are non-controlling. 3, fiche 3, Anglais, - minority%20share

The correct French equivalent is "action" in this context because "stock" and "share" are used interchangeably as a singular noun. However, "stock" is usually a collective noun, with "actions" as its French equivalent and "shares" as its synonym. 4, fiche 3, Anglais, - minority%20share

1, fiche 8, Espagnol, - devaluaci%C3%B3n%20competitiva

The reduction of the value of a national currency in terms of the currency of another nation. Devaluation tends to reduce domestic demand for imports in a country by raising their prices in terms of the devalued currency and to raise foreign demand for the country's exports by reducing their prices in terms of foreign currencies. Devaluation can therefore help to correct a balance of payments deficit and sometimes provide a short-term basis for economic adjustment of a national economy. 4, fiche 10, Anglais, - currency%20devaluation

The curve followed by a country's balance of payments after its currency has been devalued. Initially, the balance of payments will worsen because of the flow of goods already in inventory and transit and contracts signed before the devaluation occurred. But as importers and exporters adjust to the price impact of the devaluation, the country's balance of payments will turn around and begin to improve. There is nothing automatic about this; there may be other factors that militate against the J-curve to some extent, in addition to the time it takes for firms to adjust. 1, fiche 20, Anglais, - J%20curve

Some economists have focused on contagion effects as triggering balance of payments crisis. One model has a devaluation by one country leading its trading partners to devalue in order to avoid a loss of competitiveness. Contagion effects also may arise if investors pay little heed to countries’ economic fundamentals and thus do not discriminate properly among countries. If contagion effects are present, a crisis in a neighboring country may signal a future domestic crisis. 1, fiche 26, Anglais, - contagion%20effect

1, fiche 26, Espagnol, - efecto%20de%20contagio

Absorption Approach. A method of analysing the effects of a devaluation or depreciation of a country's exchange rate on its balance of trade. The approach focuses attention on the relationship between national product(Y) and national absorption(A), where the latter is defined as the use of goods for the purposes of consumption and investment by the private and public sectors of the economy. The balance of trade(B) can only be positive(i. e. in surplus) if Y exceeds A. Thus in its simplest form the relationship may be written as B=Y-A. 2, fiche 33, Anglais, - national%20absorption
